Founded
in the 12th century by the Prémontrés monks, the abbey,
with the exception of its central wing, was gutted during the French
revolution. In the course of the First World War, the chateau played
host to such luminaries as Marshall Joffre, the King of Prussia Emperor
William II, and later, General de Gaulle. These days, the chateau is
enjoying a new lease of life having undergone restoration.
